Evaluation of transdermal nitroglycerine as tocolytic agent in preterm labour

Background: Preterm birth continues to be a problem for obstetricians. complicates 8-10% of birth. Although the causes preterm labor are not well understood, burden is clear. Aim and objectives: The aim was study evaluate efficacy safety transdermal nitroglycerin as tocolytic agent in women with labor. Subjects methods: This prospective randomized controlled trial conducted obstetrics Gynecology department, AL- HUSSIEN University Hospital. carried out on total 100 patients labour. They were randomly assigned either nitroglycerine patch or bed rest alone. duration ranged from 6- 12 months. Results: 50 TNG group, 47 (94.0%) benefited GTN pains stopped within first few hours. Only 3 (6.0%) could go beyond 48 Delivery deferred less than 72 hours, <96 96 < 7days more 7 days 4(8.0%), 11(22.0%), 4(8.0%) 28(56.0%) respectively. Conclusion: appear at least effective commonly used tocolytics today.
